Striving to Launch.
Failure to Launch Therapy in Atlanta
Some teens and young adults don’t make the transition to independence as easily as others. They may be skipping school, avoiding work, and lashing out at loved ones who try to help. Young adulthood with its new freedoms and responsibilities can be a confusing time both for teens and for their parents. The good news is counseling can help. Some of the problems I see most often are
Anxiety & depression
Avoidance & executive functioning challenges
Isolation & broken relationships
Emerging mood disorders
Substance use & behavioral addictions
Family dynamics that unintentionally reinforce dependence
How Counseling Can Help
I offer concierge, private-pay counseling sessions in person in Buckhead/Sandy Springs and virtually in Georgia. In addition to teens and young adults, I work with midlife and older adults who are facing similar issues of avoidance and disconnection.
Clients start by understanding the reality of where they are and working to manage the uncomfortable emotions that accompany that understanding. Then they’ll master skills to manage problem behaviors and thinking patterns. At the same time, clients are identifying their core values and developing a concrete action plan to move forward toward a more purposeful life.
Depending on what they need, the path for clients might look like:
Individual counseling to discover ways to manage emotions, reduce harmful behaviors and work toward goals
Family therapy to build communication and accountability among family members
Placement consulting to find a higher level of care.
